About Anton

Anton Koritni is a pianist, composer and vocalist who draws on a wealth of experience, in many different genres. He creates a unique, contemporary-classical style that is dynamic and emotionally mature. Despite its technical nature, his music is easily accessible.

Most cross-genre artists have their strengths in only one style as they sail toward new frontiers, but Anton truly comes from two musical worlds, Rock and Clasical. He received a diploma of classical piano performance at 17, yet became a member of Jimmy Barnes’ Rock band at age 21.

Having worked as a full-time musician all his life, Anton has performed extensively in Australia, USA and Western Europe.

As well as piano and vocal performances, his diverse work includes the Musical Theatre, ‘SHOUT’ (the Johnny O’Keefe story), conducting choirs, composing film-music, writing big-band arrangements and publishing children’s music. More recently, he appeared as a judge on Channel 7’s TV show, ‘All Together Now’. Having travelled the country and the world, Anton’s experiences influence each of his performances. He is a creature of the stage and exudes energy in front of all audiences. His listeners share in interesting stories, told through well-crafted music and performed with consummate musicianship.

MUSIC INSPIRED BY VERSE

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

‘Australian Poetry On Piano’ is a concert of original music composed by Anton Koritni, which draws its inspiration from the great poets of Australia’s colonial and federation periods. Some poems are set to music and turned into songs, while others are transformed into luscious, instrumental tone poems. Along with Banjo Paterson and Henry Lawson Anton has also included poets whose acclaim has diminished over the years but whose work was popular upon publication; works that provide a different insight into Australia’s embryonic culture. Although today we tend to focus on the ‘bush ballads’ of this era, the subject matter explored at the time was rich and varied; the works selected include themes of social satire, love, death, childish wonderment and raucous boxing arenas

Anton’s dynamic piano/vocal performance is further enhanced with images on a large screen, which shows a real-time close up of his hands (projected from an overhead camera) and artwork, which is relative to the music. Between songs, Anton shares the workings of his creative process and relates intriguing stories of the poets who provided the inspiration. With equal doses of strength and precision, Anton draws from a tonal palette that is just as rich and varied as the poems themselves. You can hear elements of Pop/Rock, Vaudeville and European Folk Music as well as late Romantic composers like Rachmaninoff.

‘Australian Poetry on Piano’ takes you on a journey through the countries much romanticized past and reimagines classic verses from the modern perspective of an artist/musician who has much life experience.

Immerse your senses in this luscious, transcendent musical experience. Surrender to it.
